Terms and Acronyms as Used on Echoes of Night

Some of these terms are also included because they are commonly mis-used or misunderstood.

  • Beast: Mental, animalistic, manifestation of the Thirst. Thought processes turn away from the more normal day to day and toward satisfaction of the Thirst however it can.

  • Bigoted: a person who is extremely intolerant of another's creed, belief or opinion.

  • Donor: Person who voluntarily gives some of his/her blood to a Sanguinarian to help them live.

  • Hypothesis: An untested or unproven thought about the cause of an event or condition.

  • IMO:In My Opinion

  • IRL: In Real Life, as in non-RPG, as opposed to a character played...usually I use it to mean face to face, or personally, however.

  • Libel:Written (text or images) defamation of character. Intended to maliciously harm a persons image with untrue statements.

  • Morii: A living vampire. A living human who drinks blood to lead a stable life.

  • Prejudice: 1) an unfavorable opinion formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought or reason. 2) unreasonable feelings. opinions or attitudes especially of a hostile nature toward a racial, religious, or national group.

  • Psi-vamp: A person that requires extra energy to live.

  • Racist: a person who believes in a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement. Usually involving the idea that ones own race is superior.

  • RPG: Role play game or role play gaming

  • Sanguinarian: A person who relies on blood to live, though not necessarily to survive. Abreviated "Sanguin". Not to be confused with "Sanguinarius" or "Sangi" who is a person.
Ok, now why is "live" accented? because there is a difference in my mind between Live and Survive. I don't believe the blood is necessary to survive... but it is needed to live. One can think of it as a person can survive on bread and water, but lives on a well balanced diet.

  • Slander: A malicious and false statement meant to defame character (audible).

  • Slayer: A type of hunter who kills living or mortal vampires (ie: not the undead variety)

  • Tease-the-vamp: A "game" often played by either non-sanguins or well fed sanguins in which they taunt a sanguin with the idea or actual presence of blood they cannot have. Rather like waving a stake before a hungry dog. A very cruel past time and one I will not tolerate... Word of note to play this game too long can result in the sanguin in question either beasting or twoofing... not kind at all.

  • Theory: A hypothesis that has been tested repeatedly by different researchers and found to be true.

  • Thirst: the general term for what a sanguin feels when s/he hasn't had any blood for awhile, often capitalized to distinguish it from thirst for more mundane liquids.

  • Troll: An annoyance usually on message boards or chat rooms who posts for the purpose of causing a disturbance. Often by making comments of a libelous nature, accusatory, or just general pain-in-the-assness.

  • Twoofing: Same as Vamping Out... however carries less connotation and sounds better :) Credit to Lady Slinky for this one!

  • Turned: To be changed to a vampire by another vampire. A hollywood invention, NEVER found in the original myths or history.

  • Vamping Out: Physical manifestation of the Thirst. Usually marked by rapid pulse and rapid or deep breathing. Will often occur in tandem with the Beast.

  • Vampire: The hollywood ideal of a blood-sucking creeper. The term has gone too far away from its old meaning to be useful to describe what I am. So, I am not a vampire, I am a sanguinarian. I do use it on the pages if I am including psi-vamps.

  • Vampire Hunter: Someone who hunts blood-drinkers for whatever reason.

  • VH: abbreviation for Vampire Hunter

  • V:tM:Vampire: the Masquerade, an RPG

  • WW: White Wolf...Vt:M publishing company, also does Dark Ages and a few others.
